Hayley North
Hayley is a yoga teacher, healing arts practitioner and movement enthusiast, sharing her work through retreats, workshops, classes for over 25 years experience. Hayley has taught in the UK and worldwide spending long periods working and living in retreat centres in India, Italy, Portugal and France. Her journey into yoga and the healing arts began in Brighton in 1999, where she did her first three year teacher training. From there a transformative journey of self discovery began, that has included many thousands of hours of study, workshops and retreats with her primary teachers and mentors. This is a journey that has profoundly enriched her personal life and become a fulfilling profession. She is deeply committed to her own personal practice, studies and growth, is particularly passionate about the body mind connection and in yoga as a life practice, of integration and wholeness. She has studied many movement modalities including feldenkrais, authentic movement and body mind centering. Hayley also practices and teaches qi gong and mediation and is a fascia focused movement education specialist.
Hayley’s yoga is playful and creative, suitable for all bodies, levels of experience, and stages of life. Her practice and teaching is centered around presence and awareness, cultivating a particular quality of attention that honours the living intelligence of the body. Movement and posture work has a strong emphasis on grounding, breath, balance and the release of tension to encourage students to move with ease, confidence, strength and joy.
In addition to yoga and the healing arts Hayley also works as a holistic chef. Food and nutrition have been a big part of her own journey and very much part of her personal practice. She also works as a chef on AY retreats.
What to expect on a retreat with Hayley:
On retreat guests can expect classes that allow space for each person to move at their own pace and rhythm. She leads groups through thoughtful classes that can include; energising flow and sequencing, workshop style sessions on the finer and subtle details of asana, micro movements, breath and meditation, restorative practice, seasonal self care practices, energy work and sound, whilst remaining deeply attentive to individual needs within the group. She has a calm and warm presence that invites guests to meet themselves exactly where they are, whether seeking a challenge, grounding and connection, or self-discovery. Hayley is also inspired by the ancient wisdom of Chinese Medicine and Taoist philosophy and Five Elements, which she draws on and weaves into her teaching.
On AY retreats, Hayley loves that she gets to meet people from all walks of life and yoga experience, and to have the opportunity to share the practices that have made a huge impact on her own life, with others.
Additional retreat offerings:
In addition to the group sessions on retreat Hayley offers private sessions in fascia informed movement. These 60 minute sessions are grounded in the latest research and discoveries of human anatomy. They are designed to help people to move better and with more ease, and to understand the impact of fascia on their wellbeing. These sessions are rooted in the belief that every body is different and holds its own unique story and patterns. These habitual ‘ways of moving’ may not be obvious or may be overlooked in group classes and exercise sessions, they can also be driven deeper into the body by the very practices that we love to do regularly. These one to one’s offer an opportunity for an empowering journey of body discovery that can transform practice, sports performance, fitness and every day movement
Hayleys favourite AY destinations are:
