New Year Yoga Retreat in Sussex

Join us at our new venue in Sussex for our New Year Yoga Retreat, where you’ll stay on a beautiful 12-acre private estate surrounded by peaceful countryside. You’ll bring in the new year with a countryside walk, twice-daily yoga sessions, a setting intentions workshop, sauna, and a New Year’s Eve celebratory dinner. 1 hour by train from London, this retreat allows you to escape the business of daily life so you can start 2026 feeling restored and re-energised.

Start 2026 feeling refreshed, rested, and recharged on our New Year yoga retreat in East Sussex. Spend 4 nights and 5 days over the New Year, at this peaceful countryside getaway where your days will consist of yoga, a countryside walk, sauna, delicious food, and time to unwind, the ideal way to reset and ease into the new year.

Located under two hours by car or 1 hour by train from London in the High Weald, the retreat venue is a private 12-acre estate near the village of Mayfield. You will have the choice to stay in converted barns, farmhouse rooms, and eco-lodges. There are plenty of communal areas for downtime, as well as a sauna where you can escape from the cold of winter. Amongst the gardens and orchards, the grounds are home to chickens, peacocks, sheep and even alpaca so you will truly be immersed in nature and wildlife.

Each day on our retreat includes two yoga sessions. In the mornings, you’ll wake up with hatha or vinyasa-style class designed to stretch out and get your body moving. In the evenings, you’ll wind down with a slower, restorative session to help you relax and prepare for a good night’s sleep.

During your stay, you’ll also join a countryside walk through the surrounding Sussex area, a chance to breathe in the fresh air, and soak up the peaceful winter landscape. This New Year retreat also includes a setting intentions workshop to reflect on what you’d like to leave behind and what you wish to cultivate in the year ahead. On New Year’s Eve, we’ll come together for a special evening to mark the start of 2026. Enjoy a delicious plant-based meal made by our private chef, spend time in good company, and take a moment to reflect on the year ahead in a relaxed, welcoming setting.

This retreat is about resetting before the year ahead with time alone and time together, good food, fresh air, and wellness activities. Everything is taken care of so you can fully switch off, enjoy the surroundings, and start the new year feeling like yourself again.

About the Food
About the Food

We are a Vegetarian / plant-based company and take great pride in creating incredible food on our retreats.

Our breakfasts are a mixture of savoury and sweet with eggs, yoghurt, bread and butter, and milk, as well as coffee/tea and plant-based options.

Lunch and dinner are more plant-based. Our chefs create diverse and imaginative menus that highlight the seasonality of local produce. We are able to cater to all dietary requirements.

We aren’t a detox retreat, our food is wholesome and healthy so it will feel like a break from the norm, but not enough to experience detox symptoms so that you can enjoy the retreat throughout.

On this New Year hiking yoga retreat in Sussex, you will also enjoy a New Year’s Eve celebratory feast, so be prepared to be amazed!

Sustainability
Sustainability

We are working towards reducing our carbon footprint, and here are some ways we, as a company, are doing this.

We are a 88% vegan company, 10% vegetarian and 2% fish or meat (only when staying in boutique hotels that offer these options). This makes up a huge percentage of carbon emissions that we avoid so easily because our food is still delicious, balanced and even more creative. So, thanks to you all for enjoying our healthy (mostly) plant-based meals.

The difference: Most travel companies struggle to reduce their travellers’ meat and dairy consumption, which accounts for a large portion of their carbon emissions.

We stay primarily in one location for the duration of the retreat. We have started staying in a few locations on our long haul, but it is limited to 2 or 3 locations over an 8 – 10 night period. Staying in one place means low carbon emissions because we aren’t burning fuel to get around.

The difference: Other adventure travel companies move around every two days, using alot of petrol in vehicles for sometimes only 1 or 2 people.

Our activities are low-impact—yoga, hiking, surfing, skiing/boarding, whitewater rafting, SUP, and kayaking are all very low-carbon activities, in fact, zero-carbon (except skiing/snowboarding due to the ski lifts, which is also low). These activities are included in the price we measure. The carbon may increase with travel to and from these activities in vehicles.

The difference: Other travel companies can include high-carbon activities in the price, such as jet skiing, quad biking, and jeep driving, which increases their carbon footprint.

We run more than half of our retreats and holidays in the UK; these are very low-carbon holidays.

We currently don’t measure our guests’ travel as part of our carbon output because our guests don’t only come from the UK, so it is hard for us to predict this. We also don’t include travel in the holiday price, which is not part of our calculations. We know that we provide these holidays, so we are looking to include this carbon measurement in the future so we are investigating how we can reduce this.

The carbon measurements at the top of the page with the icons are per person for the whole retreat.

Ultra-low-carbon holidays

These holidays are below 200 kg per person, and our UK retreats are below 100 or even 70 kg, so these are great adventures for low carbon breaks.

Ski holidays are actually low in carbon!

In France, many ski resorts are turning to green energy to power the lifts. If you eat low in meat and dairy while you’re there and hire your ski equipment, this makes your trip as low-carbon as possible.

How can you help?

There are ways that you can help reduce your carbon when coming on our retreats and holidays:

Travel by train, try slow travel across Europe and the UK.
If travelling abroad to Europe or further afield, choose carbon capture schemes, check out Ecologi. Offsetting is not the best thing to do these days, but try carbon capture where you pay for carbon to be absorbed into the environment.
Car share UK – we recommend when guests travel by train to arrive and depart at the same time to taxi share – which helps keep costs and carbon emissions down. Why not consider car share, too? Most guests who drive come alone or with a friend; we have WhatsApp groups that, if you like, you can see who is driving from your area and enjoy getting to know each other on the way to the retreats, and save on your carbon emissions at the same time!

We are by no means saints when it comes to producing carbon, as a travel company we know this is very difficult to reduce. We are working to reduce our carbon output each year by measuring it and then creating plans to reduce it. We are reviewing all our venues and asking them how they can improve their carbon reduction as we don’t own any of our venues but we would like to work with them to help in any way we can. We want to be transparent with this, so please get in touch for more information. As we change things, we will update the website.

Do I need hiking boots and gear?

A water bottle and a backpack to put it all in.

Is there a minimum age requirement for participants?
Any age is welcome, and if you are below the age of 18 years old we request that you are accompanied by an adult. We accept teenagers who also share a love of yoga and being active, with parents or a guardian.
What is the new year celebration?
Here at AY we do things in a peaceful way, so as to escape the usual new year. We aim for you to return home feeling energised, clear headed and excited for the year to come. The setting intentions workshop helps you figure out what to let go of and what to bring into the new year. Then there is a 4 course meal, where you can dress up if you like! After dinner there will be some sort of celebration! Every teacher does it slightly differently so we leave it up to them; it could be a dance party, or a meditation, or sitting around chatting and laughing.
Can I drink alcohol at new year?
We are happy for you to have a drink at new year, not to get drunk but to enjoy with your meal. If you bring a bottle or two we ask that the group is asked if it's ok as there may be some people there who are getting away from alcohol for various reasons, and then offering it to those who may want a glass. This is our suggestion of how to introduce alcohol to the group and it has worked well over the years.
